Pursuant to the By-Laws of Smith Memorial Congregational Church, UCC, The Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2019, following the church service. The meeting will be held in the vestry of the church, to act upon the following items of business:
To hear and act upon reports and recommendations from the minister and the committees of the congregation, except as hereinafter set forth.
To act upon the recommendations of the Nominating Committee to fill the offices for 2019.
To consider and adopt a budget for the year 2019.
To take up any other business that may lawfully come before this meeting.

The 20-somethings got together on January 4 for a fun night of Board games at the home of Martha and Ryan Halverson-Dahl, playing some rowdy games of Codenames and Apples to Apples. This is a very fun group and definitely the place you want to be if you are in your 20’s, give or take a few years. They welcome all 20-somethings who wish to join them at their monthly events. We are beginning our first fundraiser of the year – and we are asking you to collect your spare change for the next 7 weeks to help us raise money for our spring mission trip/road trip in late March to the coast of Maine. The decorated jars will be available in church this Sunday, January 20 and we will be collecting the filled jars on Sunday, March 3 (of course we will always take money any time it is offered to us!). If you would like us to deliver a jar to you or pick it up when it is filled, please call Barbara Daley at 464-5239.

THE SCENE
The SCENE met on Thursday afternoon, January 17. We enjoyed our after-snack of fruit and goldfish (and Mickey Mouse) crackers brought by Jack Hebert, shared our highs and lows, talked about the real meaning of Christmas, made winter collages that you can see downstairs in the vestry, and congratulated one of our members Jack Hebert on his spelling bee win at H-D Elementary school. Our next meeting is February 21 from 3:30-5 PM and we invite any youth in grades 1-5 to join us. It seems like a long time since we have had Family Promise guests in the Dubben House. With the long winter hopefully behind us, it is time to shine up our hospitality skills and signup to help welcome our families.
At this point, we have several opportunities for meals, hosting and overnights What can you do to help? If you haven’t signed up to help before, most of us find it very rewarding.
As our week gets closer, we will share information about the families we will be hosting.

Admission is free and complimentary popcorn and a drink will be served. The doors open at 6:30PM and the movie begins at 7PM Hope to see you all there!
The March gathering of Prayer Shawl will be Wednesday, March 20th, at 10:00, at my house. It is the first day of spring so hopefully the weather and driving will be good.
Everyone is invited to come and join in a morning of conversation, fellowship, goodies… and knitting, if you wish. If you want to knit, yarn, needles and instructions are all provided.

The Church Council’s 2020 Vision plan calls for a revitalization of a ministry to those in our congregation who are facing life challenges or transitions. The Deacons have asked Harry Morehouse to lead “Caring Connections” whose mission will be to reach out to those members and friends who would appreciate added contact and connection with Smith Church.
Harry will be seeking volunteers who would enjoy the opportunity to visit, make phone calls, or send cards as part of Caring Connections. All volunteers will be asked to attend a monthly meeting and take part in pastor led training to be a visitor.

Are you looking for a creative way to spend a Friday night? The G&E committee is planning a potluck and paper bag skit night on Friday, May 10th. If you have been on our retreats, you have probably participated in paper bag skits. If you have not, you are in for a fun night!
The potluck will begin at 6 PM with our committee providing drinks and desserts. Everyone is invited! Do you have a neighbor who might enjoy a night out? Invite them to join us. We will have sign up sheets on the bulletin board at the church, but if you don’t get a chance to sign up, you are still welcome.
